Vantage Point for pastors Book the first conversation
A coaching engagement for pastors

What if the most honest conversation of your ministry happened with someone who has no stake in your church?

There's a gap between who you are on Sunday and who you are on Tuesday. Every pastor in a large church knows it. If that gap is growing — and the weight of managing it is becoming harder to carry — keep reading.

Why this is different

An honest conversation, from outside the structure.

Adam Boyes spent eighteen years inside a megachurch — as a student, a leader, a pastor, and eventually the principal of its bible college. He understands the specific exhaustion of ministry leadership in a large church: the impression management, the institutional spin, the times when honesty can become a liability the further up you go. The colleagues who are friendly but rarely friends. The endless weight of pastoral need against the finite reality of your time and capacity. He works with pastors in established churches from entirely outside their denominational circles and congregational politics — and that distance is what makes honest conversation possible. No agenda. No loyalty to protect. Just honest engagement from someone who has lived your world, felt its weight, done the hard interior work, and come out the other side with hard-won clarity.

The goal is freedom and joy in the work you were called to do. The path there runs through honest conversation — and the kind of truth that actually sets people free.

Who's on the other side of the conversation

Formed inside it. Then came a reckoning.

That reckoning was not a minor adjustment. The latter years of that season left real damage — the kind that doesn't resolve itself and can't be managed around. What followed was a difficult process of healing: hard interior work pursued honestly, over time, with help. He came out the other side carrying something he hadn't expected — freedom and joy in ministry he hadn't known was possible. That's not a marketing line. It's what the work actually produced. And it's precisely what he wants for the pastors he now serves.

His formation has come from both directions — serious engagement with theology, philosophy, and the literature of human formation alongside nearly two decades of practical leadership across one of the most culturally diverse ministry environments you'll find anywhere. A church of over a hundred nationalities. A student body spanning Indian, Ghanaian, Nigerian, Pacific Islander, Latin American, and New Zealand backgrounds. A nationally recognised qualification in Christian leadership that he authored and delivered across that breadth. The kind of formation that comes from holding theological seriousness and human complexity in the same room, at the same time, for years.

He now coaches pastors independently — across denominations, cultures, and contexts, in the US and Australia. He sits entirely outside the pastor's existing world: outside their staff room, their denomination, their board dynamics, their congregational politics. Geographically removed, which his clients consistently tell him is not a limitation but a relief. And because he has no stake in any of the structures the pastor navigates daily, his attention is undivided. His only obligation is to the person in the room. That clarity isn't common. It's also, for most of the pastors he works with, exactly what they needed.

In their words

Pastors who've done the work.

"

As an Executive Pastor, I carry a lot. Vision, teams, campuses, people, problems — and the pressure that comes with all of it. What brought me to Adam wasn't a crisis. It was the quiet realization that I needed someone in my corner who would ask the hard questions and actually help me find the answers.

Monthly sessions with Adam have become one of the most valuable investments in my leadership and my life. He has a rare ability to cut through the noise, name what's really going on, and help you move from stuck to clear. I've walked away from our conversations with sharper focus, better self-awareness, and a renewed sense of direction in areas I didn't even know were foggy.

He doesn't coach from a pedestal. He gets in it with you. His humor keeps things human, and his honesty keeps things real. He has a way of making you feel both challenged and genuinely cared for in the same conversation. If you're a leader who's serious about growth and tired of just managing the pressure instead of working through it, Adam Boyes is someone you need in your life.

Stepping into the Lead Pastor role at Berkeley Life Centre during a significant leadership transition was not an easy season. Coming into an established environment with existing structures, relationships, and expectations — particularly in ministry within a marginalised community — brought real complexity. Looking back, the transition was harder than I expected, but I am genuinely grateful for the space Adam created to process, reflect, and work through those challenges.

Having someone outside the situation, but genuinely invested in seeing healthy leadership, made a real difference. Through our coaching work together, I was able to navigate difficult conversations, manage leadership pressures, lead cultural change, and build clearer communication processes across the church, op-shop [thrift store], volunteers, and wider ministry stakeholders — approaching each with greater clarity, wisdom, and care.

What I have valued most is that this has not been a one-hit wonder, but an ongoing leadership journey. The coaching has had a genuine impact not only on my leadership but on my personal and family life as well. Highly recommend.

As someone who works in the technology industry while also leading in ministry, I've always believed that success isn't just about achieving more — it's about becoming the person God has called you to be. When I began working with Adam, I was looking for greater clarity in how those two worlds could come together with purpose and intention.

Adam's coaching provided more than practical guidance. He created space for honest conversations, challenged my thinking, and helped me step back from the constant pace of work to focus on what truly matters. His thoughtful questions and ability to see the bigger picture helped me gain clarity around my leadership, my calling, and the direction I wanted to pursue.

One of the things I appreciated most was that Adam never tried to force solutions. Instead, he helped me uncover them myself, which led to lasting confidence and growth. The impact has extended beyond my career at Microsoft into my work leading teams, communicating at scale and with intentionality, and serving my church. I've become more intentional in how I lead, make decisions, and pursue opportunities that align with both my values and my faith.

If you're a leader in ministry — navigating the weight of responsibility, the complexity of people, or simply trying to lead with greater clarity and purpose — I highly recommend working with Adam. His coaching has helped me approach both my leadership and my faith with renewed clarity, confidence, and intentionality, and I'm genuinely grateful for the role he's played in that journey.

The offer

The Clearing

A six-session coaching engagement, across three months, for pastors ready for an honest conversation about where they actually are.

How it works

The first conversation has one purpose: clarity. Not about Adam's methods or credentials — those are for this page. But about you. What you actually want. What an honest outcome in three months would look like.

Worth naming the distinction up front. Coaching is not counselling. Counselling deals with the past to help you in the present. Coaching deals with the present to help you design a future — which is what The Clearing is. If it's not clear yet which one fits where you are, that's exactly what this first conversation works out, together. The Clearing is also not mentoring — skills passed down from someone further along — and it's not consulting for your church or board. This engagement is between you and Adam, not an arrangement with the institution you serve.

If that first conversation confirms the fit — that you're ready for honest work, and that this is the right kind of help — the engagement begins. Six sessions, sixty minutes each, every two to three weeks, by video call.

What the six sessions actually do

Not a mechanical sequence — but the phases most engagements move through.

Getting Honest

Seeing your own psychological needs clearly — and whether how you're meeting them in healthy or unhealthy ways. The most resistance tends to live here. It's not always comfortable. It's always useful.

Seeing Clearly

The internal work shifts your vantage point. The dynamics you've been navigating look different from here — not simpler, but no longer opaque. Familiar situations begin to resolve in ways they couldn't before.

Moving Forward

Disentangling ministry performance from personal joy, and naming what you actually want. Success comes from joy, not the other way round.

By the final session, pastors consistently report:

  • A clearer sense of their own psychological landscape — what they need, how they seek it, and where those patterns create friction or freedom.
  • Greater capacity for honest conversation — with a spouse, with colleagues, with a senior minister, with God. Not more conflict. More clarity. The conversations that have been avoided tend to become possible.
  • A renewed sense of what they were actually called to do — separate from the institutional role they've been performing.
  • Underneath all of it, a quieter, more durable experience of joy in ministry. Not enthusiasm. Not relief. Joy — the kind that doesn't depend on the weekend going well.

What this is not

  • Counselling for trauma or clinical mental health needs. If that's what's needed, that becomes clear in conversation, and Adam will point you toward someone equipped for that work.
  • Mediation between you and your senior minister, your board, or your denomination.
  • Strategic consulting for your church's programmes, growth, or organisational health. That's different work, with a different scope and a different price.
  • A group programme, a cohort, or a curriculum. It's one conversation, repeated across six sessions, going somewhere real.

Questions worth answering up front.

Is what I share with you confidential?
Yes, with the limits that any responsible coach should have. What you share with me stays with me — I don't discuss our conversations with any other party, I'm a sole operator with no staff or business partners, and you're welcome to access your own session recordings at any time. I'm the only person with access to them on my end.

The limits: if I believe you or someone else may be at risk of serious harm, or if something is disclosed that carries a legal reporting obligation, confidentiality gives way to safety and the law. If that were ever relevant, I would talk it through with you directly first.
You're in Australia. How does that actually work practically?
Every session is a video call. Most clients find the distance is part of what makes the conversation work — there's no risk of running into me at a conference, and no overlap with your denominational or local circles. A US afternoon is an Australian morning, so finding a workable time is straightforward.
Can I work with you if I'm already seeing a counsellor?
Yes — plenty of clients have done both at once, and the two can sit well alongside each other. Whether that's the right combination for you, or whether the timing needs to shift, is something we figure out together in that first conversation.
How is this different from having a mentor?
A mentor usually shares wisdom or transfers skills from their own experience. That's valuable, but it's not what this is. I'm not handing you a playbook from my own ministry. The work is about your clarity, your decisions, your calling — drawn out rather than poured in.
I'm not sure I know what I want out of this. Is that a problem?
No. Most people aren't sure when they start. That's usually the first thing the work clarifies, not a prerequisite for beginning.
Does it matter what denomination I'm from?
No. I've worked with pastors across a wide range of denominations and cultural backgrounds. The questions underneath ministry — what brings you clarity, joy, fulfilment — are more influenced by you than the denomination you may be part of.
Is this only for associate or staff pastors, or can senior pastors take part too?
Both. I've coached senior pastors through leadership transitions and high-stakes decisions, alongside a strong base of associate, executive, and staff pastors carrying a particular kind of isolation — deeply embedded in a structure, answering upward, with few people they can be fully honest with. Whichever seat you're in, the first conversation will make clear whether this is the right fit.
What if I start and it's not the right fit?
That's exactly what the free first session is for. We talk before anything is purchased, and I'll tell you plainly if I don't think I'm the right person to help — and point you toward someone who might be.
Will the time difference be a problem?
Less than you'd think. Book a time below and the calendar will show it in your own timezone. calendly.com/adam-0451
How does payment work from overseas?
Through PayPal, in USD. Simple and secure on both ends.
The first step

The freedom and joy you once knew in ministry — or hoped to find in it — have not gone.

They've just become harder to reach from inside the weight you've been carrying. The first step toward them is a single honest conversation. Sixty minutes, at no cost, no obligation.
